We’ve collected a number of frequently asked questions and have provided answers for each. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for please feel free to contact us.

You are new. Have you the resources to pay a claim?
The important factor is your contract of insurance. It is not us that pays the claim, nor do we provide the contract. This is with our underwriters. All the Underwriters we work with are either A rated or Lloyds of London Underwriters which gives them huge financial assets and regulated financial stability.
What if I retire?
You are covered for 15 years run off after retirement, death or permanent disablement. Many other schemes do not cover you for this length of time.
Why are you cheaper than the defence organisations?
We may not be! However, in many cases the cover will be. The defence companies are set up as mutual organisations which means you will be in the same pot as many other professionals, good and bad. PDI focuses on the good dentists with solid records in their profession. This means the overall collective risk of the clients is lower. This is not to say we do not cover dentists with challenging circumstances for whatever reason. We do. These dentists tend to be with specialist underwriters that focus on this particular case type.
Does that mean if I get a claim I have to leave?
No. Not at all. Claims in this day and age are an unfortunate part of practice. However, in every profession there are good and bad. PDI looks for the dentists that manage their risk, pursue good practice and thus do not get a large number of claims as a result. All the parties in our structure are here to help you manage your risk. It benefits you and it benefits the scheme.
Do you cover GDC complaints?
Yes, these are covered. Again, some companies do not offer the level of financial support we do so please check carefully what is covered and to what degree.
Will my premium go up every year like it does now?
That’s impossible to say. However, at renewal we are already seeing reassuringly low rises in premiums and some drops.
